Floor Shadow Problem
05/27/10 at 11:08:42

Hi guys

Actually i am Working with Vray for Maya 2010 and i use your Script wich is really amazing.

But when the Template is generated in my Maya Scene, my Floor is visible with the shadow.
I cant see throu it. But i only want to see the Shadow on my Background. In the Template for Mental Ray and Maya it works but not in Vray.

And is it possible to adjust the Vray Template that the HDR File will be loadet in the Vray Domelight and not in a Sphere Geometry ??

thanks a lot

Hey, I didn't recently, but when I did the VRay Template, I didn't found a way to make a Shadow Catching Ground.

As for the VRay Dome Light stuff there are 2 Templates :

  • VRay Standard : Loading the maps in Render Settings.
  • VRay Dome Light : Loading the maps in Render Settings and in a VRayLightDomeShape Node for the lighting.

Basically the Sphere you see in the viewport is here to rotate the Ibl Setup, it's not rendered Smiley

Hi so i did some tests and have found a Solution.

1. create a VrayMtlWrapper
2. Load VrayMtl Shader in the Base Material Slot.
3. set the settings like the attachement i upload
4. Assign the VrayMtlWrapper Shader to the
   Groundplane

hope this helps.

And it would be nice when you could implement this in the Vray template.

thanks

Hope this helps.

Sweet Smiley

I'll make that on the next templates updates ! I'll even rebind this for 3dsMax.

hi its me again

i forgot one important thing

sometimes you dont want to see the reflexion of the Floor in your rendering ( example in your Carpaint ), because you only want to catch the shadow so you have to uncheck the Tag:

- Visible in Reflection
- Visible in Refraction

in the Objects ShapeNode under the Section Renderstats.

Hi,

After poking around a bit with the VrayMtlWrapper, I have a really annoying issue : The ground is not letting the Environment Lighting passing through. I have pretty much the same issue with 3dsMax :

Here is a render with no ground :

...

and the same with the shading network :

...

The second render is missing all the bottom lighting from the Environment File, only receiving the ligthing emitted by the base shader of the VrayMtlWrapper.

Notice the is also kind of an alpha compositing issue.

Hi i also maybe have a solution.

But i dont know this is right or not.

You have to turn off the CastShadow Attribute of the Floor in the Renderstats.

It's available from sIBL_GUI online updater, just launch sIBL_GUI and if you are connected online you will be informed for new releases.

Let me know if it doesn't work !

Hi Matt Smiley

Welcome here !

A template alone is not very usefull since it's meant to be processed by sIBL_GUI with the content of an sIBL file. I would suggest you grab sIBL_GUI and see what you can come up with the VRay templates from there. I didn't had much time to look into this recently Smiley
