More than 3 AEB shoots
Feb 6th, 2010 at 10:59pm

Hi there. I'm a rookie and I have a question which might sound silly, but I couldn't figure this out on my own:
Is there any way to take more than 3 shoots in AEB mode? Camera does only 3. Is there any non pricey remote that could handle this trick? So far I've been looking in lots of different remotes, but everywhere I find that they can do this only in 1 or more seconds increments between the shoots. That means I am not able to use my cameras 8 shoots per second capability. And for HDR I need to take my shoots in least amount of time possible. Or am I misunderstanding something here? Thanks.

You dont mention which camera you have. If a Nikon or Canon (certain models for both) then the Promote Remote Control will do what you wnat but it also depends on your definition of non-pricey!

Hello Simonas,

Supertrogg is right. The mighty Promote Remote Control should be the perfect tool for you, especially if you want to use the 8 fps burst mode of your camera. But before you buy one, you should ask the guys form promote systems, if that really works for a Canon 7D.
I guess you have a Canon 7D, right?  Smiley If so, you can also use the power of the 7D raw files, something around -1.5 EV and + 4.0 EV in your favourite RAW tool (I have tested the 7D last week). But don't get me wrong, that is just a band-aid.

Thanks for responses. Yes I have Canon 7D  Smiley And I've heard about Promote toy. I did consider it as pricey, but maybe I should reconsider that Smiley As far as I plan to concentrate my works on HDR. Thank you guys for help again. You're awesome Smiley

P.S. Still, if anyone knows any remote under 100 USD, that could help me in this matter, I'd really appreciate your suggestion. If no, than I'll go for Promote.

Good as the Promote is it does have restrictions depending on your camera - and it comes at a price.  For a quick and free method for getting 6 exposures from a Canon do this -
"set the camera up to +-2ev, manual mode, and say 1/30th, I then make use of the 'C' setting by registering the settings as they are. †I change the exposure to 1/2000th and take the first set of 3 shots, then quickly spin to C and hold the shutter release down for the next 3.

This gives the following exposures: 8000, 2000, 500, 125, 30, 8 and much quicker than trying to spin the exposure compensation dial which is what I was doing previously."

This tip was posted on this forum a while ago but I can't find the original so apologies to the author for not crediting.  I've kept it saved as a Stickie because it is so useful.

If you have an iPhone there is a useful app called HDR Helper which shows the brightness range and number of exposures required.

Actually, in the iPhone HDR Helper isn't as useful as PhotoBuddy. http://iphone.ambertation.de/photobuddy/

That one can even show you overlapping bracket pairs, based on the big sequence you want to shoot. It's hidden away in PhotoBuddy behind the More.../Bracket manu.

We also cheat sheet for your camera bag in the download section: www.hdrlabs.com/tutorials/downloads_files/Witte_HDR_Bracketing_Charts.pdf

Oh, and we also have a brand new project coming up here at HDRLabs. Our new collaborator Steve Chapman starts an Open Camera Controller. Everything open source, software and hardware, based on the Nintendo DS (and very adaptable to any handheld device with touchscreen). Watch the front page (best to subscribe the RSS feed).
