Lightwave sIBL Loader v2.2 prerelease
02/06/10 at 06:31:51

Hey guys, been working on the Lightwave Loader a bit more. It's primarily a maintenance release.

New in Version 2.2:

- sIBL List is now sorted alphabetically.
- Improved support for multiple lights.
- Setup process more stable, especially on large scenes.
- History menu for sIBL collections.
- Linear Workflow preferred for LW HARDCORE.
- New Preference: Set name appendix for output scenes.
- New Option: Area Light for sIBL sun.
- Much better Radiosity presets (by BredeRock).
- Several bugfixes and code cleanup.

Check it out and let me know if it works for you!

BTW - these test renders were done in the new sIBL-of-the-month.

Wooow! Excellent!!! the area light option is really useful. I've tried it here with a 60Mll poly scene and it feels more quick and stable, too.

Thank you, Blochi!

on mac osx ub 32 bit, layout 9.6.0 build 1539, there's an endless scan for the sibl content as soon as the path is indicated when the script runs the first time. after deleting the LS-GN Prefs and retrying several times, if found out that there are no problems however, if there is only one subfolder in that path.

markus

edit: i checked also with layout 9.6.1 build 1548 and the result is that it crashes as soon as a sibl collection folder is selected as path, no matter if this collection contains one or more folders. checked running in 32 and 64 bit mode.

unfortunately, can confirm.
v2.2 still crashes Layout MacUB-OB (32x/64x) and does not work for latest official 9.6 Mac-UB release.

OK, try this one on the Mac. Or anywhere else.
Looks like the new alphabetical sorting got hung up on the mac (for whatever reason), so I took a shortcut there. Also switched the sIBL-Library browser to the newer method, dropping that nasty hack with the abusing the Content Dir chooser.

Hi,
tried 2.2_001 successfully with LW-UB 9.6.
Still no joy with OB 9.6.1 (all builds) 32x and 64x - crashes Layout immediately.

Thanks a lot for your efforts!
(Hopefully this gets sorted, when 9.6.1 UB matures).

cheers, roger

I'm not having any luck with 2.2_001.  Where should the collection folder be stored?

Every time I get it running it crashes when I try to point to my collection.

I just got it to work by moving my sibling folders (i.e. "desert highway") directly into my User directory.  If they are in a main collection folder it won't recognize them for some reason.

Thanks for all the help!

for some reason v2.2_001 recognized the path to my sIBL-Archive (guess it was somewhere around from my previous tries).
From what I gathered from HotShoe over at NewTek forum, it seems you're using kind of a hard link to the user folder now for OSX.
Any chance that we will get a sIBL-version with the possibility to choose an individual path for the Archive root in the future? Would avoid cluttering of the Home folder with all the sIBL sibling folders.

Very very weird.
Exactly that seemed to be the problem - the paths on OSX are driving me crazy. Gonna give it another shot on the weekend. Somehow it depends a lot how you browse to your sIBL collection folder, if you go there through the Home folder you'll end up with a path with no drive component. Which throws off LScript.....

To be honest, I have no idea where Lightwave stores these variables, I'm using the built-in save/restore functions... on Windows that would land in the Registry, so I guess on Mac that would be somewhere in that Library folder. But I have yet to find the spot...

Hi,
had tried several things now and found a way to get it working with an individual Archive folder by editing the LS-GN Prefs file:
I noticed that the file requester at the beginning and the sIBL prefs dialogue don't save an individual path into the prefs file, but writing that path manually solves this issue.
Also noticed that sIBL is the only plugin with a "P" flag in the lock-column in Layouts "Edit Plugins > Layout commands" (don't know what this means, just saw it)
(OB still crashes with this method, but I don't use the default path to the LW Preferences for OB, this might be another problem and I have the feeling that NewTek changed the LScript system on cocoa LW).
A drive component doesn't seem to be necessary on OSX, path starts with /Users/'user-short-name'/'FolderX'/'FolderY'/'FolderZ'/... up to the Archive root.
(But I'll check if it makes any difference to implement a drive component - I just don't know yet how OSX handles the drives internally, as a user can set whatever name he wants to have for a drive, there doesn't seem to be a fixed C:\ name)

(I've given a description on NewTek Forum: http://www.newtek.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1000759&postcount=14)

(don't know if this is of any help for you but anyway:)

had tested v2.2_001 successfully with several paths to various places on internal and external HDD by manually typing the path into the LS-GN Prefs file using the OSX path structure where "/" leads to the HDD with the OSX install, "/Users/'usershortname'/Pictures" leads to the users pictures folder on the OSX containing drive and "/Volumes/'VolumeName'/'FolderName'" would be the path to a folder on another partition or another internal or external drive.

3 things remain:
- a chosen path isn't saved by using the sIBL dialogue prefs tab.
- v2.2 still locks up Layout9.6 MacUB with the spinning beach ball while scanning the Archive folder (guess it's the alphabetical sorting)
- and ... you guessed it: no joy with 9.6.1

Hi there !

I'm having problems with sIBL 2.2 and LW 9.6 64bit.

I load Car model into layout, start sIBL, choose image from browser and all works fine until i start to render. When i hit render then LW starts to preprocess (some node(s) need it) and then it stalls on Rendering radiosity percentage (usually at 9x percent) or stalls at beginning of rendering at 3-4% and that's IT. LW isn't not responding (i can abort render) but even after 6-7 hours (for 8xx*6xx render on Quad core) it's not moving ahead and still stays unfinished with same percentage amount Sad.

Does sIBL have problem with some LW nodes (surfacing) ?

Thanks
