Forum Update
11/24/09 at 08:07:30

Hello friends,

You might have noticed that the forum was down during the weekend. What you see is the result: the latest forum software. Since I had to rebuild the integration and template from scratch, I had a chance to tighten up the design and make it more coherent with the rest of the site.

What's new?

  • Quick-reply Box under each thread
  • Multiple Attachements
  • Quote only selected text
  • Facebook contact option in your user profile
  • Spell checker
  • Better security
  • probably more than I'm aware of

On top of that, there's the features that trickle down from the recent main page update. Did you know that you can collapse the title image on top? Now it will stay like that while you keep browsing - this is a great way to cut faster to the meat...
At some point I'll also integrate the new flash panoviewer. If I could just figure out how to generate thumbnails server-sided...?

Thanks for your continuing engagement, making this one of the greatest communities I know.
Rock on!

looks great:)

im not sure how the flash pano viewer plug in or whatever works, but the TimThumb php script will generate thumbnails from existing image files, i use it on samrohn.com to create all my preview thumbs

Thanks, that looks just like what I need.

The idea is that a full-size pano would be thumbnailed right after upload (or linking with the pano tag), that thumb gets embedded in the post, and on click the krpano viewer opens in a lightbox. Pretty much just like on your site, except all triggered from within the forum software.

thanks christian - i basically have it set up so that i can upload a jpg + pano file (a .mov displayed with flash pano player) with the same name, insert that name into a custom field in wordpress, and the preview, lightbox pano, and thumbs are all automatically generated (url vars, php, etc)

since krpano takes equirectangular source images, you should be able to do it all from 1 equi jpg, but timthumbs will not extract previews from swf, etc

i'm actually looking to move over to krpano soon as well, i love the stereographic display mode Smiley

yaaay.

Timthumbs is pretty awesome. Thank you so much for that tip. I just integrated it, attachements are now thumbnailed and automatically zoom into a lightbox. The way timthumbs work even enables this for all existing posts. Very cool.

Check it out:

Hmm, hit another roadblock. While timthumbs script works magic on files that are on this server (like attachments), it fails entirely on images from somewhere else. Guess this is some sort of security measure, because it would essentially leech a local copy which (albeit scaled down) would possibly infringe on copyrights....

looks great, cant wait to see the pano viewer Smiley

the script timthumbs is based on, phpthumb apparently allows remote source images, i've never used it though

there is also a forum for timthumbs here - http://www.darrenhoyt.com/support/forum.php?id=4

and a few people looking to solve the same prob w/ timthumbs here - http://www.darrenhoyt.com/support/topic.php?id=206

Well, I stick with timthumbs for now, because I like that name. The panorama viewer looks better when it's embedded in the page anyway...

So here it is, the return of the PANO tag.

For example this type of link:
Code:
[pano]http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2718/4154255573_60361db488_b.jpg[/pano]

looks like this:

Yay.
Embed your heart out! But careful with the filesize, there's no multiresolution...

It appears I busted the Pano feature here. I linked to one of my .jpg panos hosted on one of my websites - 2048 wide and I get a security error message as it loads up.

doh.
I'll look into it as soon as I return from Tokyo.

....

actually, I think I see already whats going on here. The pano viewer fails when linking directly to a post, because of this # character in the URL. Just deleting everything after the last / and reloading the page turns them on again....
