Lightwave Import ... ready for beta testing
11/21/03 at 16:20:08

Jo!

I proudly present the initial beta release.

www.Blochi.com/gfx/sdr/SDR_Import.zip

Grab the zip and install it like a Plugin. You also need to add a button in Menu config ... You know the deal... The Script  requires LScript Version 2.6 - So you need the latest LW7.5.

Also, you need this SDR Library: www.Blochi.com/gfx/sdr/Library.zip

Place this anywhere you want, but remember where you put it. I recommend your Texture Collection folder or something...  On first launch the Import script will ask you for the path. If you are working on a network, make sure this path is always the same.

ATTENTION:
Check out the script in a testing environment first. Like a dedicated content folder. DO NOT use it on any sensititive or important data. SAVE you scene and your objects before you execute the script. Remember, this is a Beta Release, and things might go wrong. I DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA.

That beeing said, here are the feature highlights:

- Big preview pane, live and in color.
- Performs Library Scan on launch, allows easy extending of Library.
- Creates Background Dome geometry in LW.
- Configures the Texture Environment with a Diffuse HDRI.
- 3 choices of SUN light: Distant/Spotlight/Spinning Spotlight.
- Creates a big handle, that rotates them all together.
- Full In-line help.
- If launched several times, it will only modify the environment instead of adding a duplicate.
  (might be still buggy)

Future features on my list:

- setup Reflection Maps.
- stability.
- support for Lightprobe format, maybe Horizontal/Vertical Cross.
- improved stability.
- support Sub-paths in Content Directory structure.
- rock solid stability.

Thanks for all the help with the coding go out to Reiner Schug, Eki, TAZ, Sean Hyde-Moyer, and all the LScript List. You guys are awesome!

So, go grab the Release, check it out, and post bugs, improvement ideas, opinions.

Cheers,
Blochi

1 day gone, and Version 0.6 is online. Same link.

www.Blochi.com/gfx/sdr/SDR_Import.zip

new features:
-------------
- Sets FP_Gamma for Texture Environment.
- Remembers Import Options.
This is made optional itself, under Preferences Tab.
Default is OFF, which means the plugin starts up with the most non-destructive configuration.
- Improved Library directory selector.
Now it checks the supplied path, and accepts only a valid SDR Library.

bug fixes:
---------
- doesn't turn off Lightwave's warning system. This was a nasty one, i.e. it switched off the "Are you sure you want to quit Lightwave?" warning... Sorry about this.
- writes cleaner scenefile.
- uses LW's own config setting for the "Objects" folder instead of fixed path.
- no more confusion if "Parent In Place" is on.

cheers,
...Blochi

Yes, indeed.
There is a Fred hidden in the picture, and an invisible turtle.   Cheesy

Take care,

This error happens, if you don't have a valid "objects" folder, or if it is write protected. It is trying to generate the Background Dome and save it - even though it shouldn't do this when you have nothing but "Setup Sun Light" checked.

Thank you for the report, I'll fix this bug.
