XSI Mental Ray 1.4 And Maya Mental Ray 1.4 Templates are available with support for sIBL V2 File Format Parameters. They are currently stored in their respective "Nightly" folder. You need at least sIBL_GUI 1.4.3 to use them.

Hello !

The first release of VRay For Maya Template is available for download. If you want to get it with the Updater, don't forget to uncheck the Ignore Missing Templates Option in the Preferences.

Note that this is a beta release, currently I don't know how to prune an object so it don't get exported by Vray Translator, that's why the feedback is hidden by default.

VRayFor Maya  and Turtle For Maya Templates are available as stable releases now, the funny thing is that it's possible to compare easily the output of the different renderers now :)

An interesting thing is that the Mental Ray Shadow is a bit shifted compared to Turtle and VRay.

Hi,

Some Templates Development Updates :


  • Maya MR / VRay / VRay DLight Templates got updated.
    No Ground Breaking stuff, though Controls have been Added on the FeedBack Sphere so you can have a faster access to tweak the Render.


  • Turtle Template will get updated as soon as I can have the Renderer working back on mu computer ( Trial Expired )

  • XSI Template will get a Code Update Pass when I get a bit of time, so it's possible to have a Shadow Catching Ground and Exposed Controls Attributes "A La Maya".

  • 3dsmax Templates are still stuck since I can't focus on them currently. If anyone know a Coder willing to take that, I would be really really happy :).

  • I'm waiting for Maxwell to get released in V2.0 so I can tackle it.

  • Blender 2.5 is announced for October, I have a good hope to be able to do some interesting stuff around it.

Some Cosmetic Update for Maya Templates, Smart IBL Controls are now on an Annotation instead of the Feedback Sphere.

I also figured out how to use the mip_matteshadow in XSI, I will be able to apply it to the Template.

ok, this is a zip with working templates for MR, Vray and scanline renderer.

I also included the OLE connection script which have to be copied into the max/scripts/startup Folder. ...then the connection to the sIBL-GUI should work.

For all vray dudes: have a look at the code and you understand how it works and how you can fix the maxscript to vray problem.

Do you think it's possible to add the maxscript to the installer of siblgui?

..oh ..and would you mind to upload the 3d model of the sample images as dxf or 3ds .. i always wanted a scene to compare the different renderer

I'll put the Startup Script on the First Page of this Thread, and specify its link in the Template docs ( I did some Temporary ones for now ).

I prefer for now keeps separate the Helper Scripts ( Maya / Max / XSI ) from sIBL_GUI itself, it's easier to maintain for me.

And for the model, are you speaking about the Mesh used in the Maya Renders ?

I just started looking into it. Many cool options in Houdini. Mantra(PBR/Micropoly/AO), Renderman, Mental Ray, and Maxwell.
We should obviously start with Mantra! :)

Hi,

Just a quick post to announce that I'll support myself 3dsMax Templates from now.

VRay and MR ones are already available for sIBL_GUI 3 Beta.

They both feature a Viewport Visual Feedback like on Maya and XSI so it's easy to orient the IBL the way you want. They also setup in one click the scene ( Loading up the renderer, setting up the globals, etc), you basically output the loader script and the scene is ready to render.

Hi,

Both Maya VRay Templates were updated with support for Shadow Catching Ground and VRaySun light ( it will be used by defaut for the sun now, giving nice shadowing and colors ).

I have some issues though with the ground, there are GI artifacts when the ground is told to receive GI. Notice that I'm encountering also kind of compositing problem ( Check around the sphere on the example rendering ). If someone have a workaround I would be more than happy :)

Here is a render after 2 minutes shadow color / brightness tweak :

Hi,

3dsMax VRay and Mental Ray have been merged / refactored with JHaywood code.
Now Mental Ray has its Shadow Catching Ground. I also added mrSun light support, meaning you'll get those nice natural shadows.

Notice that you don't need to edit the production_max.mi anymore with 3dsMax 2011

Maya Templates have been updated so that rendering nodes created by the sIBL setup are displayed into hypershade.

They also feature an option that allows to preserve some previous sIBL setup settings ( Feedback size and rotation ).

Hi,

Brainspoon got a very good idea that got implemented in Maya Templates ( It will be in XSI and 3ds Max ones also ) : Ability for the Templates to trigger the execution of another script.

To do that I just added 4 function call in each templates, if the functions are defined, they will be executed otherwise nothing will happen.

From those 4 functions callbacks, 2 are pre process callbacks and executed before the Template execution and 2 are post process callbacks executed after the Template execution.

A set of pre / post callbacks is shared among the templates while the other set is specific to each template :

  • sIBL_Maya_preProcessCallback()
  • sIBL_Maya_VRay_preProcessCallback()
  • [... Template Sauce ...]
  • sIBL_Maya_postProcessCallback()
  • sIBL_Maya_VRay_postProcessCallback()


You basically just need to fill functions like that :

Hello,

I had a few minutes between 2 renders and I decided to implement auto Visual Feedback size compute to the Maya Templates. That means the Visual Feedback will automatically fit the Scene.

I'll see how I can do to implement that feature into XSI and 3ds Max.

Hi Pinin,

At the moment the default size is 100 unit, in the next release the template will evaluate the size of the scene ( by calculating the bounding box of the objects ) and the Visual Feedback will be sized to surround the objects. If the current scene bounding box is inferior to 100 then the visual feedback will have the 100 default size.

3dsMax Scanline Template has been fully rewritten, it has Visual Feedback, etc ... Though no support for reflections for now since there is no gamma node available to do per texture adjustements.

Hi,

I implemented Shadows Types support in RfM template : "Raytraced", "Shadow Maps", and "Deep Shadow Maps".

I however have an issue with the Area Light, I don't manage to get proper shadows when the light is far ( at the Feedback edge ) : the shadow is totally black. If somebody has a clue, that would be awesome !

Hi Kel,

I've got two questions regarding the Softimage templates:

First, where can I check which Softimage Versions the latest Softimage MR template supports? And secondly, which Arnold Version(s) does the latest Arnold Renderer template support? I'm are working with the Arnold 2.2.2 release. When I execute the loader script it seems to be loading the MR template instead of the Arnoold template, although I selected the Arnold template and set some options for export.

I've installed the TCPServer Addon into my Workgroup for the remote update of the sIBL set, but where can I find the Property Page inside of Softimage to set the address and the port for the Server?

Hi Leppiz,

I'm on holidays and don't have access to my windows box with Softimage so I cannot confirm but:

- XSI Templates are for XSI 7.5 - 2010, Softimage Templates are for Softimage 2011 and over.

- The export should not create the issue you are describing.

- I don't remember exactly where is the entry point to configure the address / port, I would need my box, but in the worst case you should be able to open it from the Plugin Manager.
